I am excited to work as the counselor for AMCMS this school year. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University Class of ‘02, Gig’em! I received my Masters in School Counseling and Principal Certification from Lamar University. Currently, I am working on my license as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate. I have been in education holding positions as a special education teacher, coach, and school counselor for over 17 years. This year has brought about a new experience for professional growth due to my responsibility for counseling splitting between AMCMS and Oakwood Intermediate campuses.
It is a blessing working with students, staff, and families as a social, emotional, and academic support on campus. My core values of connectedness, communication, and overall well being drive my actions and responses. Connectedness-the ability to provide interactions where everyone feels heard, seen, and valued is imperative. Communication-response time occurs in a timely manner, goes two-ways, and establishes a plan for growth and success. Overall well-being-the positive support systems available, healthy coping skills taught, and self affirming strategies implemented that are applicable for a variety of environments.
When I am not working I am out and about in the community attending sporting events/practices for and with my family or we are traveling somewhere. I have over the years discovered a balance, which allows me to serve both my family and school family, so the values hold true.
I look forward to serving AMCMS students, staff, families, and community this school year. Thank you for this opportunity!
